Luciferase from the marine copepod Gaussia princeps (Gaussia luciferase, Gluc) is a novel reporter for gene expression in vitro and in vivo in different fields. Gluc is naturally secreted, no cell lysis is needed. This enzyme shows stability at elevated temperatures. No accessory high-energy molecules like ATP and cofactors are required for enzyme reaction.
Gaussia luciferase is over 2000-fold more sensitive than Firefly and Renilla reniformis luciferase and 20000-fold more sensitive then secreted alkaline phosphatase (SEAP) when expressed in mammalian cells.
